I have confessed to a few of my friends that I am addicted to this little gem. The Fitbit Flex is something you wear on your wrist and it well, tracks your activity and sleep. Look at the picture, wonder if that is where I got the definition. Is that kind of like reading the back jacket of the book before writing a book report? You put the monitor on your wrist and wear it all the time, it counts your steps throughout the day. The goal is to get 10,000 steps a day. When you first start wearing it, you think "How hard is it go get 10,000 steps a day? I should not have any problems with this." Then after wearing it for a full day and you have it sync with your computer, you are anxious to see the amount of steps and and it is 4,035. You think it must not be working correctly. The next couple of days you try harder and you end up with 5,881 and then 6,509 steps. You realize it is getting better, but you know you still have room to grow. You check your computer first thing every morning, to see your previous day's steps. You start dreaming about this goal of 10,000 steps and wonder if you are ever going to reach it. Then you realize it is going to take more effort on your part, you decide to walk to work, or you volunteer to go pick up the mail at the post office. You are getting closer and closer, one day missing it by just a few hundred steps. At that point you want to start kicking yourself, but instead you start trying to come up with more ways to reach your goal.
At this point you know you might have an addiction, but then you start taking it to the next level. You start thinking...I wonder how many steps it is to go to _________. You count your steps, you know that it takes about 365 steps to go one Nephi City Block. It's Monday and even though you drove to work, you decide to walk to more places. It's lunch time and instead of running home and having a sandwich, you decide to walk to the credit union to make the payment on the truck that is sitting on the road in front of your office, while you instead wear the treat off your shoes. Later that day, even though you are done with work for the day, you put your planner in the truck and walk to your appointment at the Chiropractic Clinic. You walk to and from your appointment. You look at your watch and realize you still have several more minutes before your WW meeting, so you use this as a great time to take your truck home and walk back up to your WW meeting, which was literally across the street from your office, just 73 steps away from where your truck was previously parked. While at your meeting you receive a phone call from your aunt that cuts your hair and asks if you want to come up after your meeting to get your hair did. So, after the meeting you realize that where you are is literally right at the half-way point between your home and your hair cut destination. So, you walk to the hair appointment and when done you finally walk home. All in an effort to reach those elusive 10,000 steps. Yep, you are pretty sure that you have an addiction. But at least it is one that is beneficial to your health, rather than a detriment.
