Last Wednesday, we held a FranklinCovey Finance Golf Tournament. To actually have the tournament happen was a major triumph! We started scheduling the tournament back in May. Every day we scheduled turned into a rainstorm. We began wondering if it was ever going to happen.
We decided that we needed to hold the tournament before our fiscal year-end. Two days before the end of the year is still in the year. :-) We met at Stonebridge Golf Course and were divided into our teams. Due to some last minute changes/cancellations we had to organize the teams a little differently than planned. We ended up with two teams with three people and then my team had four. The tournament was "Best-Ball" or a "Scramble" depending on what you want to call it. You use the best hit from your team and then continue from that point. Of the 9-holes played my team used my hit exactly one time. EXACTLY ONCE--does that tell you how well I played? My shot was a putt and I believe it was for Par. Yep, the putt-putt golf may have payed off!
I am not certain about the other teams, but I think my team had a good time, at least they told me it was fun. One thing I did learn about my golf game was I have poor golf course etiquette. What can I say? I am a chatter-box, I like to talk and visit with my friends. Apparently, that is poor form on the course. I have resolved to work on my motor-mouth skills on the course. Maybe.
After the game we went to lunch at Red Robin. Not necessarily my favorite place to eat, but their food is usually consistent and I know they can handle larger parties. While at lunch we handed out the awards. We didn't hand out all the usual serious golf awards, instead our awards were geared more towards fun/laughable awards. Some of the awards were "Didn't I see you on the ESPN mini-golf tournament", "Best use of the @#$%$%##@ Word", "Most Time Spent in the Sand-Trap" and I think our CFO Scott won "Drive so good you could see it on the Freeway" or something along those lines. Jocelyn did a GREAT job coming up with the wording for the awards and putting them on a certificate that looked dang good. We even had fun shopping for the awards, a golf ball cleaning kit for the potty mouth, a Playskool rake for most time in the sand trap, etc. My award was "Best Launch of the Golf Club" where I won a golf-glove to help improve my grip.
We all had a good time and I look forward to next year when we can once again step onto the golf course and maybe just maybe my team will win. Hey, we took second place. Congratulations goes out to the winning team of Steve Y, Ashley, and Dave I think they came in at one under par. My team was somewhere around 7 over par and I think the Third place team (Travis, Richard and Jeremy) were around 11 over par. Oh, I guess I should give mad props to my team of Jocelyn, Kurt, and Steve H for putting up with me as well as carrying the team and making it so we didn't ever really have to use my poor shots. Thanks team!

Ahh Clinton, I miss you! You always make me laugh. Sounds like an interesting golf tournament. And yes, I think 2 days before year end definately counts in the year. I sure do NOT miss year end at Franklin!!! How late were we there some nights? LATE!!!!!
Can I just let it be known that while you were out golfing with Franklin Covey---some of us were back at the office doing expenses for people who turned them in late after going to Japan. Glad you had a good time thought!
