Something about March that just screams VACATION! I get to the point where I just can't handle the cold weather and snore any more. So, when Amber (my niece) said she was going to be playing softball in Mesquite, NV in March I jumped at the chance to get away for a couple days.
We left Thursday morning and made it to Mesquite about 2:00 (local time) which gave us just enough time to find the field and scope out or seats. That first night the team played 3 games and went 1-2. More importantly the weather was amazing, the 70 degree temperature was so refreshing!
The next morning was just as amazing. I threw on a pair of shorts and while watching the games managed to get a little sun on my legs. Again, they played 3 games and went 2-1. The games were over by 2:30, so we loaded up the cars and took a quick evening trip to Las Vegas. After an amazing dinner at the "Wynn" we took a trip out to The Bass Prop Shop. I love that store! I don't know if I dare say this or not, but I think I might like that store as much as Cabela's.

The picture above is some of the
taxidermy on display at Bass pro. Anyway, after our evening out we returned to Mesquite. Our final day in Mesquite started out a little later than the others. The team had one final game against the home town team. Amber's team jumped out to a quick lead, but in the 3rd
inning gave their opponents the opportunity to get back into the game. Well, they actually let them into the lead by a significant amount. The softball games are timed and the officials are very committed to keeping on schedule. It was middle of the 4
th inning and the
Juab team was still behind after they had their chance at batting, and there was less than 15 minutes before time was up. They quickly took their positions in the field and began the bottom of the 4
th. The home team gave the us a bit of a fright, getting a couple of runners on based, but ultimately they were able to end the inning without the other team scoring. They had 5 minutes to start the next inning or the game was over. (Once the inning is started though both teams have the opportunity to bat.) The inning started and
Juab put a couple of people on base. We scored a couple of runs which frustrated the tired pitcher for the other team as she walked several girls. The Virgin Valley team put in a new pitcher, that was pitching faster than what they had been experiencing but this only caught them off guard a little.
Juab continued to score runs and they pulled ahead by 1 run, now leading 9 to 8 as Virgin got their 3rd out of the inning.
Taking the lead inspired the
Juab team and gave them the motivation they needed. Three batters later and
Juab was declared the victor!!!!!!!!!!!! It was an exciting game. What a great way to end the tournament with a come from behind 5
th inning rally.
We hit the road and returned home. The vacation was short and great, exactly what I needed.
