Oh Give Me a Home......

We are just back from spending some time in the mountains of Wyoming. Often times when thinking of Wyoming you envision the vast plains and well honestly kind of blah. I can promise you, where we were was not blah. I really enjoyed the mountains and their scenery. We went to Wyoming in search of big Mule Deer. We saw our fair share of deer. The first night of the hunt we saw a couple of great bucks on a distant hill. I was certain we would have these two bucks in the back of our truck on our return trip to Utah.

The next morning we went in search of them. Well, we found the bigger one of the two. Michael took a shot as the buck dove into some trees. We were pretty certain at that point that he was down. As we were contemplating our next steps, another deer pops his head out and Chris takes a shot. We knew this one went down and we headed up the mountain. Well, when we got there we found the deer Chris had shot, but couldn't find the big buck. The only thing I could think of was that when he dove into the trees he stayed in there long enough to find a way out and around the mountain out of our site. We never found him again. We did find other deer and had other chances, but we only came home with the one buck.

One of the most amazing sites in the area was the Wild Mustangs. They were everywhere. This was not the first time I have ever seen Wild Horses, but the sheer number of them was a little astounding. While riding the 4-Wheelers back to camp late one morning, I took the opportunity to stop and snap a picture. There were so many other picture perfect moments of the horses, but I didn't get them. But this picture I thought was pretty nice. Seeing these horses made me wonder about their ancestry. Were these horses from the Western Frontier, were they released from the Native Americans, did escape from pioneers? So mane questions and no one to give me the answers. (I wonder if Wikipedia could help me?)

Our last day on the trip was a little disheartening. We walked out of the trailers and it seemed to be perfect weather for a good day of hunting. It was a cool morning and a storm had rolled through the night before. The only problem was, the storm left the fog behind. We still headed out to see if we could get above the fog or maybe get below it. None of this worked, we were pretty much stuck in the fog and it was thick. You really could not see clearly 10-15 feet. Had I not been wanting to see what was on the other side of the fog, I would have loved it. I mean look at this picture, it was beautiful.

Throughout the course of the day, we kept hoping that the sun would maybe burn off the fog and give us a window of opportunity. Unfortunately, this was not to be either. Once in a while the fog would get a little thinned and as we thought maybe we could get out and about, the thick fog would roll back in. So, we finally caved in and packed up camp. I had to include one more picture. This is Mike, Dad, and Chris as they were out in the fog. I just think it is a classic picture of them. Makes me smile to look at it.

The trip was great. We really had so much fun and I truly think I could make this same hunting trip every year.
