New Law!

Earlier this week, a big deal was made as the Feds have issued a ban on texting for truck and bus drivers. While ultimately this may prove effective, it might not have the immediate impact the Feds are hoping to make.

As most of you know, daily I make a pretty long commute to work. During the last 7+ years of my commute I have seen a variety of other activities I am certain contribute to as many accidents as texting. I have long said, I could write a book about the things I have seen while driving. In an effort to keep this post brief, I am just going to mention a few of the things I see on a fairly regular basis.

* Ladies applying make-up and Men shaving. Not even looking at the road, total focus all in the mirror on the underside of their visor.

* Reading. Books, letters, I have seen several people reading the newspaper, with it draped all over the steering wheel. I am certain this is safe.

* Eating. Now this might not be a big deal on the fast food scale. But when I see someone holding their cereal bowl with their left hand while scooping their cereal to their mouth with the right. I wonder which hand is steering?

* Writing a letter. I will assume it is a letter. I have seen people writing in notebooks and typing on their lap-tops.

* Carnal Pleasure (No Elaboration Needed)

* Changing clothes while driving. Maybe I shouldn't point out that I have done this one.

Maybe I better wrap this list up, before I incriminate myself {again}.

If you have seen other things that are equally outrageous I would love to hear about them.

Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to the texting ban, I just think we have many other things we do while we should be driving.

What is it about driving that makes people so fasinated with their noses? I would say 50% of the people I pass are picking their noses and looking at what they dug out!! In my hour + commute I see all the fun things you listed and I can't believe there aren't more wrecks on the road. I love the ones reading the paper! Once every few moments they look out around the paper to look at the road.....these type of people don't get in wrecks...they cause them and then drive away. We were following a car that was weaving between the commuter and fast lanes. As we caught up...yup, she was texting..with both hands. I looke over and gave her a look like WTH? She gave me the normal finger in response!!! I will get off my box now........
