It seems like the older I get, the more I start enjoying things. Maybe with Halloween it is a renewed enjoyment. The last several years one of the things I have enjoyed most was at the FC co-workers brought in their kids to Trick-or-Treat in a safe environment. I thought it was great seeing the families of my co-workers as well as the creativity of them and their families. This year, I knew that was something I was going to miss. However, as part of the celebration in Nephi, the Chamber of Commerce sponsored trick-or-treating at community businesses. Being a member of the Chamber, we participated this year. I had a great time passing out candy to the 600 or so children that came by. In addition to the candy, we were asked to give each child one ticket. The children could then take their collection of tickets to the City Park to buy other prizes. A few times I looked up and down the streets to see how busy everyone was. I chuckled to myself as I watched groups of children go from business to business as I realized this was what Halloween looks like in the movies. I think what I was most impressed with was the traffic was actually at a reasonable speed. People driving through town were purposely driving slow, which is something that seems terribly unusual on Main Street. I also appreciated the city police that helped the children cross the road. Yes, I was impressed with my little town and the sense of community for this great event!
Recently, my sister-in-law Tracy shared some sugar cookies that she had made. I was impressed with them and asked her for the recipe. She said the recipe was easy and since I have never made sugar cookies, I figured easy was right up my alley! Tracy was right, the recipe was easy and the cookies came out great. However, I am not good at frosting cookies, so I asked for involvement from friends. We cut out and made ghost, pumpkins, and silver bats. Yes, I said Silver. We could not get the frosting to turn black (I didn't have black food coloring) despite the many, many, many drops of food coloring. The silver was the closest we could come and well, I like them. I think they turned out great.
They even taste pretty darn good! Some of the cookies even got decorated with sprinkles. Which of course only added to the festiveness of it all!
Yep, the older I get, the more I am once again enjoying many of the simpler things in life.

What a fun way to celebrate. I miss it each year, it seems it is rare I am home on Halloween - and even if I am, I'm lucky to get one or two kids to show up at my house.
I like the silver bats also..lots of fun! FC Co-Workers and Trick or Treaters missed you also!
