Pop and Rock:
- 2012 Marked the return of one of my favorite band Matchbox Twenty. Their song "She's so Mean" struck a chord with me this year. Not because anyone has been "so mean" but maybe because I was just excited to have Matchbox back.
- Another of my favorite bands had a great year. Maroon 5 had one of their most successful years thanks to their album Overexposed. Two of my favorite songs from the year "Payphone" and "One More Night" were both on this album.
- Maybe 2012 was the year for band to return to the spotlight. Train released a song that I think is a great deal of fun. I sing along and laugh every time I hear "50 Ways to Say Goodbye"
- I am pretty certain this might be the only song I list that my brother Mike will approve. "These Days" from Foo Fighters has been one of my favorite songs of the year. I know this song came out in 2011, so I am a little slow. I have really enjoyed this song and think it just has a great beat.
- Last year I had a great little band introduced to me. This year, that band Imagine Dragons made it! I have enjoyed many of their songs, but especially like "This Time". If you haven't checked them out yet, you should.
I have listened to a little more country music this year than the last few years. I am not into Country as much as I am other genres, but I will still list some of my favorite songs here.
- Blown Away by Carrie Underwood
- Come on Over by Kenny Chesney (Please don't hate me)
- Cowboys and Angels by Dustin Lynch
- Lovin' You is Fun by Easton Corbin
- As for Country music this year, Luke Bryan has had some pretty good songs. His album Tailgates & Tanlines has turned him into a megastar this year. There are quite a few songs that I like, but my favorite song off this album is "I Don't Want This Night to End". I saw him perform this song on TV earlier this year and it looked like he was just having fun and well, it was pretty contagious.
Other:
This year I have discovered a couple of old songs remade as well as even rediscovered a few older artists. These songs and artists have managed to find their way onto my play lists.
- Rocky Mountain Way from Godsmack. Even if you don't like Godsmack you will like this song.
- Tainted Love from Scorpions. I heard you say "What"? You know darn well this song has intrigued you and you are going to go find it on-line right now aren't you? Come on do it. Do it.....
- I have also rediscovered Don Williams. I know, he is about as old country as you can get. But he has some of those old songs that remind you of your childhood: Some Broken Hearts Never Mend, Tulsa Time, Amanda and I Believe in You.
- This year at work, I have been in control of the music and have together some random play lists that have been really fun. For instance, we did songs with names in them, songs with locations, and even tried songs with the word dance in the title. If you have never done something like that, I suggest you do. You are likely to find some old favorites as well as maybe discover something new.
