Don't know if you saw the Six Blessing Challenge from Jason Wright. For those of you that want to read the challenge, here is the link to Jason Wright's blog. 6 Blessings Challenge I read through it and decided it was going to be a challenge I was going to take and it would in fact be my first post of the new year. As I was thinking about what to write, I realized that my Christmas post was actually sort of a Six Blessings Challenge itself. But because I had committed myself to making a Six Blessings Challenge, I decided I would go ahead with what was planned. So, without any further hesitation, her it is:
1. A Lost Election
You are all probably wondering how this is a blessing. But the blessing isn't in the loss, but is instead in the election itself. My family has always been close! We rely on each other for everything. This year as we helped dad plan his campaign for Nephi City Mayor we all volunteered ideas and time. We had all united for one common goal and when the Painter's unite, we are stuck tight! Despite the loss, I think our family came out stronger than ever. After the election was over one of my very best friends had said something akin to, your dad was a definite winner in this election. To hear the great things you said about him. Yes, I am thankful that we had this election to help bind us even tighter!
2. Good Health
We ended 2012 with family members in and out of the hospital and then during the first part of 2013 Baby A had the opportunity to spend a few days in the hospital. Then as you are probably all aware in January I was given the news that I was diabetic. However, thanks to the help of a great doctor, the WW program, and a supportive and helpful family, I have been able to beat it back into the hole in which it came from. As a family we have all finished the year with good health and I feel better than I have in years, both physically and mentally. (Thank you happy light.)
3. An Incredible Community
The last few years living and working in Nephi has allowed me an opportunity to be more involved and feel a part of the community. Whether it is throwing horseshoes at the annual Ute Stampede, being on the RMEF committee, or volunteering with the Sub-For-Santa program, Nephi offers great opportunity for anyone to become involved.
4. An enjoyable elk hunt
Because this was a recent post, I won't elaborate too much. This last year, Mike drew a late season elk tag on the South West Desert unit. The 4 Painter boys, our dad and my nephew Chase had the opportunity to spend a week or so helping Michael find the perfect elk. The hunt itself was awesome as Mike tagged a great bull. But for me the best part of the hunt was spending the time with my family; hiking, visiting with each other, laughing, telling stories, reminiscing and watching multiple seasons of Duck Dynasty. For me, the hunt is all about the camaraderie. I love spending the time with my favorite hunting buddies.
5. An empowering job
This past year has seemed to be the best year of my professional life. My role at AZOMITE is officially listed as Controller. However, I freely admit, of all my roles and responsibilities, working on accounting is where I have spent the least amount of time. This year I have had the opportunity to work more with sales, representing us with potential clients, working on marketing efforts, etc. etc. etc. I know it is because I am working with a small company and as such, I have the opportunity to wear many, many, many hats. (And even place an order for a few.) The company is great and as I have mentioned in the past, I truly appreciate working for a company that empowers their employees as well as thanks us for the work we do.
6. Baby A
I do appreciate all of my family and I love them equally. However, this little girl has brought so much joy and happiness into all of our lives. She has such a fun loving personality and a smile that is completely contagious. This sweet girl love unconditionally and has helped us all to open our hearts a love everyone more. She is learning to express herself more and although her vocabulary of real words is limited she is still able to get her point across. She likes everyone to be together and when we are, if someone leaves she gets upset. Whenever she grabs my finger, I always follow and when she is pulling me along, she always looks up to make certain I am still with her. There is just something about a little one that softens personalities, I know she has mine!
