Last Saturday (2/9) Mike and dad asked my if I wanted to get one last chance to go fishing, before the ice was too thin on the lakes. I told Mike I was not certain that I would be able to go because I was planning on using Saturday as a chance to catch up on my sleep. I had not slept well at all this past week and Saturday was the only day I had that wasn't booked solid. Mike told me that I should be able to sleep on the drive. I had to laugh as I knew that would not happen.
Well, we woke up early so that we could be on the road by 6:00 a.m. We get out onto the ice and our auger was having issues. We couldn't drill holes in the ice. Fortunately not too far away from us was a group of about 20 guys. We offered them $5.00 to borrow their auger to drill some holes. I think we made a mistake in offering them that much. I am certain they would have done it for one cold brewskie. Since none of us drink, we didn't have that kind of tender to barter with. Anyway, we started fishing about 9:30 and ended up reeling the last fish in about 3:00. It was a long day and the weather was awesome. The sun was out and made it a great day. Much like being on the water in the summer with the sun out, sitting on the ice carries some of the same characteristics. The reflection of the sun off the ice, really got me red in the face. I was so burned! Because it was still only in the mid-40's or low 50's, the sun went largely unnoticed. Of course I had sun screen with me, but it was still in the sled, never opened. Typical Clint!
Oh well, the day was great and I had a fun time. Maybe there will still be enough ice left on the lakes when I get back from the cruise, so I can go fishing one more time.
