Valentine's Day

If any of you have ever been around me for let's say 10 minutes, then you probably know I hate Valentine's Day. (I think my post for Valentine's Day last year started about the same way.) Anyway, I was lamenting the "Holiday" with some co-workers. They looked at me with all seriousness and said "Well, you are getting Amberle something right?" I told them that I was not planning on getting her anything and I had already told her that I hated Valentine's not to expect anything from me. One of my co-workers looked at me and told me in no uncertain terms that I was stupid and maybe something like I would end up being dead-meat. Francine also pointed out to me; Valentine's is not about me, it is about Amberle. She was right and I knew it. (Is there anything more annoying than a woman that is right?) This was not what I had been wanting to hear. I knew for a while that I had been needing to get her something, but nothing sounded right. Chocolates--blah, Flowers--Promising, but nothing else seemed right. After brainstorming and discussions for a little while it was decided that I would get her a bracelet. I went about my search and found the one I would end up getting her.

In addition to the bracelet, she did get some flowers and a chocolate covered strawberry. Seemed like a win at the time.

Well, what she gave to me was even better. Rather than fighting to get reservations at a restaurant and trying to do all the other "traditional" Valentine's gag and puke. She joined me in attending the Hunting Expo at the Salt Palace. The expo was great and I loved seeing all of the taxidermy items. My favorite is in the picture below.

After we walked through the expo, along with Amberle's dad, we walked over to a little German Place, Sigfried's where we had Brats and Cabbage. Yes, I am totally serious. It was Awesome. Do I have a great girlfriend or what? Seriously, she never had a complaint to me about our activities for the day. Really, I do feel lucky.

As with last year, I bought the heart shaped cookies from Dippidee and shared with my family and with Amberle's.

You know, if I keep having good Valentine's Days like this one, I might not be such a hater.

Then again....you really can't teach an old dog new tricks.
