Sometimes it is better just not to ask

Do I believe that there is a little bit of evil in me? Yes I think there might be. Let me tell you why. (This is just one of many things.) Whenever I am finished with my shopping whether it is a grocery store, Wal-Mart, Hardware store, or clothing store and I walk up the counter to check out, if the clerk/checker/salesperson asks me "Did you find everything?" I always answer honestly. Usually I answer "yes", but sometimes that answer is just "No". This is my favorite, I love to watch the person squirm. Almost every time the person will ignore my answer and sometimes I will get a "Sorry". No matter what their response is, I always watch for their reaction. Every time I say in my head--never out loud. "If you don't want to know the real answer, don't ask me."

This leads me to my story and the real reason behind this post. A few months ago I started shopping at Macey's in Spanish Fork. (This is not meant to demean the store in Nephi, I do shop there as well, I just like Macey's a little better.) My switch was actually from Wal-Mart to Macey's. The purpose behind my switch, was because despite Macey's prices being just a tiny bit higher than Wal-Mart, I can get out of the store cheaper and with what I feel is better produce and meat. Anyway, back to my point. Last night I stopped in at Macey's to grab a handful of items. I searched the store over and couldn't find one thing. I just assumed that it wasn't available as I have checked a few different stores looking for this item. Anyway, as I head to the checkout, the clerk said to me the standard: "Did you find everything you needed?" I said; "no". Waiting for the squirm I looked up at her. Without missing a beat she said to me: "Oh well is it something we can help you find or order in for you?" WOW! I was in shock. Someone who actually knew how to react. I actually think I stammered a little bit, I didn't know how to respond. And maybe just maybe, I was held a little speechless. Although, we know that didn't last for long.

I missed getting her name, but figured I would just grab it off the receipt. Seriously, this was outstanding customer service and I really wanted to write a letter to the store telling them what an asset they had. However, I was a little disappointed when I looked at the receipt and it didn't have her name, just listed "Manager 8". So, I am doing the next best thing and offering her praise on my blog. I know this will be the most beneficial to her in the long run.
