Summer Starts Here
During the summer in Nephi, life revolves around the city park. Signifying the start of summer is the opening of the city pool. The pool is filled, the water heated and the doors open for business on Memorial Day. From that time forward, the park is the center of summer life.
In addition to the swimming pool, on the south side of the park is located the pavilions. These pavilion's house family reunions, neighborhood parties, fund-raising events, and are the home of the Lion's Club breakfast during the Ute Stampede.
Our park is the home of the annual 4th of July Carnival. That's right, once a year the park is transformed into a summer wonderland. It becomes the home of a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, fun rides for the kids, a fund-raising auction, a fishing pond, crafts, and of course a place of yummy goodness, the Country Store. For about the first 10 years of my life we all pulled out our blankets and watched the fireworks on the park lawn as well. This was always an adventure as someone was sure to get ashed.
In addition to these events the park hosts "Art in the Park", neighborhood parties, family picnics, Ward/Church Parties, friend gatherings/parties and is a good stopping point for the high school kids to spend time when they tire of dragging main. During the Ute Stampede in addition to the Lion's Club Breakfast, the following events are held at the park: the Car Show, 5K Fun Run, and the Bathing Beauty contest.
Through the summer, (between Memorial Day and Labor Day) there is a variety of events happening. It seems there is always something happening. There is hardly a day that if you were to drive by the park would not have people spending their time, just soaking up the sun or relaxing on the lawn.
Our city park is truly a hidden treasure of our community. One of those places anyone can go and it feels like home.
