#19 Nasty

I freely admit, this picture is pretty nasty!  Last Saturday while we were out on a little ride in the mountains we noticed this pretty little thing.  Sure it looks like a huge spider web--but I couldn't see any spiders.  At least not any big old mean looking spiders.  So, here is the question, all my science loving friends.  Is this a web to catch some nasty things?  Is it a cocoon created by the caterpillar looking things on the outside?  Or is there something else on the inside that is being protected?  Come on, smart people, spread the knowledge!

So when we were in KS all the trees along the water were covered in these webs. Large trees! Because we were so curious about it I read up lots. It is spiders. When they feel danger of flooding they come out and cover the area in protective webs. There are lots of different articles to read on it, but everything I seen was the same...fear of flooding.
