Recently, while driving through Salt Creek Canyon (where else?) I drove upon this flock of Wild Turkeys. This picture does not do them justice. Despite looking rather plain in this picture, when the Tom's have their chests puffed up and their tail feathers are fanned out, they look pretty magnificent.
Although, the hens are not that "fancy" I have a great deal of respect for them. One morning while camping in a meadow, I opened the door of the tent and as I looked to the right of me and a hen was showing a doe deer exactly who was the boss. The deer was more than double the size of the turkey, but she didn't want a part of any of that drama, so she trotted away, leaving the turkey to strut her stuff.
