Dippidee -- Go There!

This past Valentine's Day, I decided to break out of my comfort zone and actually try to celebrate the "Holiday". I was thinking back to my days as a child and one particular Valentine's Day stood out for me. If I am remembering this correctly, my mom's sister Shirley made her nieces and nephews heart shaped sugar cookies. I am certain this was no small feat as she probably had many nieces and nephews. Well, over the years I have thought about getting sugar cookies for my family, but when the 14th rolls around I am cookie less! This year, I was not going to let that happen.
About 2 years ago, a friend of mine (Jenn C) introduced me to a great bakery in American Fork. And my obsession with Dippidee started.

I found lame excuse after lame excuse to stop by and pick up a sweet treat. They have amazing treats. The cupcakes are awesome, the ultimate chocolate chip cookies are great, but by far the best item they have is their sugar cookie. I have bought them for work, taken them to friends that needed a quick pick-me-up, helped other friends blow their diets. Well, this year I decided to pick up the cookies for my family.

This was not the cookie I bought for them, but I had one like this for myself. I bought cookies that were double hearts for my family. Sunday during family dinner, my family passed on how much they liked the cookies. I think I might have started a new tradition. Maybe I won't hate Valentine's quite so much now.

Wait! I better give a review. Everything I have had tastes homemade. I think the shop is small enough that you don't get that "Processed" taste to their items. The treats are as good as pulling them out of the oven yourself only without the work. The sugar cookies are loaded with thick frosting! And the shapes change with the seasons. I have seen Hearts (obviously), Easter Eggs, Hammers (for Father's day) and I think Graduation Caps. I am certain there are others I am forgetting. The ultimate chocolate chip cookies are also great! Just enough chips that you get a taste in every bite. They are huge, about the size of a dessert plate. The brownies and cupcakes are EXCELLENT. (They have two different kinds of cupcakes, a white and a chocolate.) There are more items, but I can let you try those on your own.

Now, I don't want to give you all rave reviews. When I went in last week, I grabbed one of their homemade Oreo cookies. I hope I just got it from a bad batch. But it didn't hold up to the memory I had of them. My cookie was crumbly (not as moist as in the past) and I am not certain if the middle (frosting layer) has changed or not, but it tasted a little too much like Crisco for me. Maybe it is the same as it has always been, but for me this time it was a little disappointing.

I still recommend you go there. Be prepared to spend some money! I have never walked out with under $30 worth of items. Most items range in price from $1.99-$2.99, but worth every penny and every last calorie.

Thanks so much for the nice write up. I am so glad you have fallen in love with our little store. You are right, everything is baked on site, absolutely no perservatives. I am sorry to hear you got a bad "homemade oreo." I am not sure what happened, but I appreciate you letting us know so that we can keep things fresh. The icing in the Oreo is the exact same icing we use on the sugar cookies. I promise there is not one ounce of Crisco in our frosting, just pure sweet butter. I hope you will come in some time and try another for FREE, just tell them I said you could. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon!
