This is my hometown...

Often times I am asked why I drive so many miles to work each day. It is simple, I would rather live in Nephi. After high school graduation I spent a year at SUU (then SUSC) for one year before a took my two-year religion tour. Upon returning I returned to SUU and spent a few years there and then when hired by FranklinCovey I moved to Salt Lake. I lived there for about 7 years and after a time I decided I needed to move back to Nephi. To be honest, I didn't think I would be doing it this long, I figured I would get employment closer to Nephi. That has not happened and I continue to drive. Sure, Nephi is a small town, but I wouldn't trade it for living anywhere else. Despite opinions to the contrary, I have decided to show a few pictures of Nephi and maybe, just maybe you can understand me a little more. I have decided that I am going to do this in multiple installments, rather than just one long expose.

BENEATH THE MAJESTIC GUARD OF NEBO

My first picture is Juab High School. I don't necessarily love the school itself, but I do love that I am a graduate of Juab High School. I had 74 people in my graduating class. Some of you had more people than that in your math class. But I would never trade the education I received at JHS. The school was small enough, the teachers knew you by name, they knew when you were in class, I knew the secretary in the office and she knew my excuses. We even had Ms. Whicker, now all of you might not have liked her, but I found it fascinating when she taught World History. She was able to show us pictures of places all over the world. They were now more than just places in a book, they were real.

I love the way the the community revolves around the high school. We all support the sports teams, take pride in our Multiple Time Region Champion Drill Team, and we have outstanding Speech & Debate and Drama Teams. If you want to participate in school, there is enough to keep you involved. And if you wanted to stay out of the spot-light, you can stay out of the spot-light.

My senior year, for our Senior Trek, we took a train ride to Denver. Where we almost slept in the Howard Johnson and we did visit a museum. The trip was a fun time and I would like to see a bigger school get away with that kind of trip.

We are not the biggest school, nor are we the smallest. But JHS offers a valued education; I walked out a more well-rounded individual because of my high school experiences.

I also love Nephi. If I could get my husband to move to a smaller town I would do it in a heart beat. I also loved Juab and I had 90 kids in my class.
