The Way of the Wind?

Today on my drive home I stopped at the store to pick up some cards. While looking through the multiple isles of "Humorous" birthday, thinking of you and get well soon cards, I remembered that I was out of Thank You Cards. I moved over another isle to pick up a package of cards. The selection of cards was not very exciting. Don't get me wrong, if I was a 13 year-old girl, I would have had hundreds of different choices, yet as someone out of this demographic, I was a bit disappointed.
The lack of thank you cards got me thinking about a topic. During the last several years I have found more and more people are not sending Thank You cards or even cards in general. Possibly they were never very popular in the first place, maybe it was just my upbringing or maybe it was just my friends that I have associated with through the years. But sending thank you cards is something that has always been expected.
While in college I had friends that ordered personalized cards. They used these cards to say "thanks", send encouragement, or a simple "thinking of you". In my younger days, I think I single-handed kept Hallmark in business. I bought and sent cards for almost any occasion imaginable. I think it was just a way of keeping in touch with people and in my opinion a hand-written note speaks volumes. I am not saying that I am the best at sending cards or notes, but I do make an effort.
Not sure where I am going with this blog. I guess I am just wondering if in this day of technology; text messages, emails, blogs, Facebook posts, has the hand-written note or thank you card become obsolete? I would be anxious to know other people's opinions.

I still handwritten notes, but I don't remember the last time I used them. Email is just easier - I keep track of email addresses, but not physical addresses.
