2011 A Look Back at the Movies

One of the "Traditions" of the past couple years is giving a top and bottom list of movies that I have seen during the year. Well, as I was reviewing the movies I have seen this year, I was a little disappointed at my list. It was, well pretty short, and I am not certain there are enough movies to even warrant a list. That of course will not stop me, from putting forth a Valiant Effort.

What I have decided to do, is to give each movie I saw this year a grade and then a brief blurb.

Sherlock Holmes a Game of Shadows: (B+) If I were forced to rank my favorite movies, more than likely, this would be my top movie of the year. Great Action! The plot was better than the first one. The characters were better developed; Holmes was not as inept and Watson was not nearly as antagonist. (read whiny) The special effects were PHENOMENAL! If you are thinking about seeing, see it on the big screen.

The Help: (B) Yep a solid B. I know this movie was geared primarily as a "Chick Flick" but I read the book before I even knew it was going to be a movie and I liked it. So, I knew I had to see the movie. What sweet revenge Minny! Would have liked it better, had I not read the book. (But isn't that the way it usually turns out?)

Footloose: (B, B-) I enjoyed the soundtrack to this movie. They did quite a few remakes from the original as well as added some new songs. The acting was good, it was pretty much the same story as before, just a new location. As much as I love Julianne Hough, Lori Singer is a much better Ariel Moore. I have to admit Miles Teller must have channeled the late Chris Penn in his portrayal of Willard.

Transformers 3: (B-, C+) I thoroughly enjoyed this move. Please don't think that the grade means I didn't like it. a C+ is still a passing grade. As long as they have Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime I will forever and always love the Transformer Movies. Oh and let's make certain we keep good action and special effects.

Cowboys and Aliens: (C) I did like this movie. (I must have I bought it on DVD after seeing it in the Theater.) I love the premise/concept behind this movie, but I think they failed a little in the execution. But let's admit it, Harrison Ford is a Bad Ass! Whether he is cracking a whip, fighting off Storm Troopers, or yelling at terrorists to "Get off His Plane" he kicks butt! And now he is a Cowboy that kicks alien tooshie!

Source Code: (C) I could never be a true film critic. This movie got great reviews and I have even seen it on several lists of the top movies of the year. I liked it and thought it was decent, but sometimes wonder why some scenes are put into movies.

Red Riding Hood: (C-) I thought it was okay. But I think they tried to put one too many twists into it, just for the sake of there being another twist?

Other movies I saw this year? The Green Hornet, Thor, Pirates 4, and Zookeeper. They all get passing grades as well.

What movies did you see this year? Which were your favorites?

We watched Pirates 4 last night, LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I thought that other than the original movie, it was the best one!

I didn't watch a lot of movies this year, I don't know why. I really enjoy movies! I think I need to change that this year!
