People are People

With all of the fires burning around the state this year, I have seen something that you don't see as often as you would like.  What is it?  It is kindness, generousity, sincerity, and compassion.  With these fires coming near and through populated areas, we are seeing multiple evacuations.  These evacuations have caused people to open their homes and their hearts.

Last night as it was announced that Fairview was being evacuated, I started seeing posts on FB, people stating they had extra rooms, yard space, blankets, food, etc.  Prayers were offered, good thoughts were sent, and friendship was extended.  People were asking for ways they could help.  I saw many people say they want to help and asked "What can I do?"  As I read through these posts my heart was swelled with emotion.  I was in awe of the kindness that still exists in the world.  So often it is the negative, the sensationalized, and the controversial.  I love the stories of the good, the positive, and the heroic.

Today, as I was chatting with a friend about this.  We were discussing how it is sad that it takes a tragedy or a disaster to get people to unite.  Throughout the course of our discussion it came to my mind that it isn't necessarily these kind of things that bring the good out in people, but it is these kind of events that allow people a place or an avenue to direct their good behaviors.  It is through these type of events that we hear of good things happening.  For the most part, I think people do their good deeds anonymously or without fanfare.  But there is still good in this world.  There are people that are generous, caring, and genuinely and unconditionally love others.  Isn't it amazing that we live in such an incredible and generous world?
