Before I begin, I feel that I need to make a disclaimer. More than likely this post is going to ramble or not make any sense at all. Having said as much, if you continue reading it is your fault not mine.
If you continued reading, I would like to ask you something. Has anyone else noticed that people don't say: "You are welcome" in much of any form? (You're welcome, or even just welcome) Seriously have you noticed this or is it just me? I noticed this a few days ago. Recently a friend of mine had done something kind and I told them sincerely "Thank you". The reply was something like "Thanks is not necessary" and I know they were also sincere and genuine. But it did get me thinking and I even started watching how I responded in these situations. Very rarely do I say "You are welcome". I admit that I have started saying it more as I have been making a conscientious effort to say it as much as possible. During the last few weeks some of the responses I have either heard or even caught my self are the following:
- No, Thank you!
- You betcha!
- Anytime!
- No Problem
- No Worries
- Don't mention it
Anyway, I think you get the idea. Have any of the rest of you noticed this? Or is it just something in the area I live? Is this a down grade in our social skills? Is it a problem? I need to be honest, I don't see this as huge problem or a negative. But it was something I have been thinking about lately, and I just wanted to lay it out there. Now I have brought this to your attention, you will also notice this. You're welcome!

I've noticed this too - and wondered why...
I've noticed. The only person I know who says you're welcome every time is the hubby's ex wife. And it sounds so cocky and like she has granted us with a gift or a right. The other answers sound so much more polite to me and like we are on a level playing field...sure, no problem, you owe me nothing in return. Hope that makes sense :) and you wont hear me use you're welcome anytime soon :)
