On my drive home today I was listening to X-96. I knew that since it was the afternoon, local icon Artie Fufkin was on the radio. As I was listening to another great song by Oingo Boingo, Artie comes on the radio and said; "Call now, a random caller will win a gift certificate for Abs Drive-in." I thought to myself: "I will give Artie a call. Even if I am not the random caller I will ask him to bank my call and then come back to me, because I have a question for him." Well, I dial the number and it is busy, so I think I will try one more time. This time I hear that familiar ring. After about 4 rings I figure that I will give it one more ring. Then I hear Artie on the line say to me: "You want some free food?" I said "Sure." He asks for my information, and give him my name, address and phone number. He asked if I knew their location and I told him I did. As Artie was getting ready to hang up I said to him: "Artie, do you not know who this is?" Artie then said: "Is this THE MR. PAINTER?" I told him it indeed was. So Artie and I spent a few minutes on the phone getting caught-up on the last several years. I then let Artie get back to being a DJ.

After the next break Artie comes on the radio and said he would like to congratulate "Our Good Friend Clinton Painter of Nephi, for winning the Abs Drive-In Gift Certificate." I think to myself: "I wonder how many people I know heard that?" No sooner did that thought cross my mind when my phone started ringing. I noticed the name on the caller ID and started laughing. I didn't even say hello, I just said: "Someone is listening to the Radio." Mr. Mumma said: "BULLSH*T! I call BULLSH*T! Something fishy is up with you getting free food from Artie." Adam and I spent close to 20 minutes catching up.

For those of you unfamiliar with these two, both Artie and Mumma are my fraternity brothers. All because of music I was able to spend some of my drive rebuilding old acquaintances. Good Times!

That is the bestest!
Knowing Artie, I have such a hard time listening to him on the radio. He is such a different real person when he's not busy being a DJ.
You need to quit winning crap on the radio. It's just plain irritating.
