Calling.....

Elder Armstrong (L) Elder Hepworth (R)

Many of you might not be aware, but my current calling in my church is working as Co-Ward Mission Leader. For those of you unfamiliar with that position, I am co-in charge of helping to coordinate dinner appoints for the missionaries serving in our area as well as lining up someone to do exchanges (Missionary Driver) for the missionaries. Now this only happens a couple times a month. The rest of the time, we visit ward members and maybe teach a few discussions. Not the busiest calling in the church and one you think I could be on top of right?

This week kind of snuck-up on me. Dinner and exchanges were set for Tuesday night. Yeah, pretty short notice to get a dinner appointment and a driver. Well, we did have a family that wanted to feed the missionaries. However, we still needed a driver. Usually, we have our Young Men preparing to go on missions go with the Elders. Since it was a Tuesday and that is the night of YM/YW, I had to come up with someone else. I asked a few people around church on Sunday and none of them were able to make it. I was then that I realized it had been close to a year since I last went with the missionaries, I figured it would probably be a good choice for me to do it. That was the best decision I have made all month!

I picked up the Elders at their dinner appointment and we made a couple of stops for them. One of which is a new contact and was very receptive. They had an appointment set up for 7:00 to work with a family. The Elders told me this was going to be a discussion in Spanish. I had to ask them if they were meaning "in Spanish Fork" or actually in the Spanish language? Well, much to my surprise it was the latter. I didn't know the Nephi area was now the home of the Spanish speaking missionaries, now I do. Well, the discussion was great. They asked me if I would give the opening prayer, I hesitated a bit until they told me I could give it in English. (relief) I really enjoyed the discussion, listening in Spanish and picking up on words here and there. For the most part I could even tell what they were talking about. When we left their home after the discussion, I felt like I had been taught. It was really a worth while experience and one that I am certain I can look back at as a growing experience for me.

By way of information I included a picture here at the top of the two missionaries I was with. Elder Armstrong from Tampa, Florida is on the left and Elder Hepworth from Rexsburg, Idaho is on the right. Good job Elders! Keep up the good work.
