Just a little change

In early December 1996, I held in my hands two job offers. The first was from a company in Springville (I can't even remember which one). It was close to home, in my major and would be a good beginning job. The other was from a company that I interviewed with, literally 5 different times during November. This company was a bit further away from home, was a little less money than the other, was a lower position in the finance department, but had one thing that the other didn't. They promised me promoting from within and growth. I took that job and on December 9, 1996 I started as a full-time employee for Franklin Quest. After several changes during that time, a merger between Franklin Quest and Covey Leadership Center, multiple cube/office re locations, several job advancements (about 8) and unmeasurable growth, January 31, 2011 will be my last day as an employee.

We are parting on good terms as friends. There was just a time that you knew if a change wasn't made, we would no longer be beneficial to one another. The decision was made final in mid-December and kept it in my back pocket not wanting to tell anyone. You know, answer questions and get sympathy looks, etc., but since it is just 10 days away, I figured it was time to start letting people know.

For the most part I am excited to see where I will be going and doing next. I do like working in the finance field and of course could see myself continue to thrive. But something in the back of my mind keeps reminding me of itches that I have had in the past. I think what about politics? Since we just went through that season, maybe now is not the time to jump on that boat. I wonder if there might be something available in a philanthropic organization? I think the possibilities are endless. Okay, not really endless, but there are opportunities and chances that I might be willing to take.

This is an exciting time for me and I am looking forward to my next great adventure.

Clinton, I want to wish you the best in your endevors. I too know how it feels to be leaving Franklin, as I too jumped ship back in 2002 after 15 years there. I think this will be a good move for you. There are so many directions that you could go. I wish you all the best!
