2011 Elk Banquet Wrap Up

This morning as I woke up I was able to breathe a little deeper and relax a little better. We finished the Elk Banquet this year and in my opinion, things went well. I think I have the best job at the banquet. I am at the check-in/check-out desk. So, I get to visit with and see most of the banquet attendees either win they are coming in or when they leaving. My biggest stress is wanting to make this the most efficient process we can. We always have a snag here or there, but I hope that we can keep things moving.

We had about 250 people at the banquet, which is close to a normal year for us. (Not our highest and not our lowest number of attendees.) The attendees were able to play some of our traditional games of "Score the Elk", the Medallion Game, or they were able to play our new dice game "Ziltch". (This reminded me of a combination of Yatzee and Farkle) We had a fantastic dinner, catered by Howard Stubbs, and we had our traditional live and silent auctions. This year we added a special "Kid's Auction" item. This might have been my favorite part of the evening as the kids had a good time being able to participate. I loved watching the kids check with their parents each time to see if they would be allowed to bid again. I was visiting with my mom today and she said near them was a little entertainment as one of the boys by them was bidding and grandpa would tell him to bid again and hid dad kept telling him no. (I think we all love grandpas that do this.) After the auctions we had our drawings and sent everyone home until next year.

All of the comments I received were positive and it seemed that everyone had a great time. I love being involved with this worthwhile organization!
