Thursday night I returned from another "business" trip to Southern California. A couple of weeks ago I was in my weekly one-on-one (knee-to-knee, eye-to-eye, whatever you want to call it) with my boss Dave. We decided that it would be a good thing to make visits to our 5 regional offices. We looked at the upcoming schedule and decided that it would be ideal if the trip to SoCal coincided with the upcoming GM meeting. So, I returned to work for one day in the office before catching a flight to the John Wayne Airport.

After picking up my rental car, a Mazda 3 with Navigation System, I headed out to Laguna Beach. I arrived at the Surf N' Sand Resort and proceeded to check in. The Concierge was very helpful and informed me that my company had already started their meetings for the day. I made it to the meetings, just in time to watch Dave give the finance presentation. After we finished meetings for the afternoon I decided that I wanted to finish the check in process and get my luggage into my room. I opened the door to my room and was shocked by the amazing view of the beach. I immediately thought to myself; I could vacation here more often. I think I may have even said out loud that when I finally get married that I will be spending at least one night of my honeymoon here.
The last night in the hotel, I was reading The Bourne Ultimatum, while waiting to go to dinner, I looked up and noticed that right in front of me was an amazing sunset happening. I immediately grabbed my camera and took the following picture:
The sun is setting over Catalina Island and in the foreground is a small fishing boat. I was impressed with the picture that my little camera took for me. If you anyone wants this picture, let me know I can email it to you, or you can just lift it off this site.
Thursday morning I woke up and had to take one last look at the ocean before I got ready for the day. I cannot believe how loud the waves are as they crash upon the sandy beach.
After snapping the picture above I decided it was time to get back to a little reality and get ready for work. We arrived at the Irvine office about 9:00 and were there until just a few minutes after 5:00. Our flight out was at 6:30 and we were probably 20 minutes away from the airport, in no traffic; however it was rush hour I was in unfamiliar territory. (cue the Navigation system) I merged onto the freeway and it was not moving, I was impressed with my ninja driving skills that got us into the airport about 5:40. Now if only I could get that rental car turned in and get through security. Dang it! Why did I bring luggage that needed to be checked? I all but threw the keys at the people at Hertz, begged the lady at the ticket counter to get my luggage onto the plane and was taking off my shoes while running to airport security. I made it through security and to the gate, just as they were boarding. I got on my plane, through my carry on into the over head, sat down and they closed the plane doors. Now I could sit down and relax, I finally arrived back in Nephi about 11:30.
I think the trip turned out to be a great success. I really learned from the associates in our Irvine office and feel that now I know more about them and what I need to do to better help them.
