Thanksgiving Week(end)

The Work Week

Can I just tell you how grateful I am for a 3 day work week? What a good way for me to slowly start my way back to work. Despite it being a short week, it still seemed like I was there for the full 5 days. Fortunately, it was not a full work week and I did survive.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving turned out to be a rather nice day. We spent Thanksgiving dinner with my mother's family. This was the down year for the Williams family and we only had about 62 people present. As I was talking with my cousin Sheradee she mentioned that even though there are fewer people on the down years, it seems that we spend more time visiting together and renewing our friendships. One of the things this Thanksgiving I was most grateful for was my cousin Mark and his wife Vicki and daughter Lindsey were there for dinner. Mark is like my older brother. When I first lived in Salt Lake I live with my Aunt Margaret, Mark is her only son, so he is like a brother to me. I really enjoy the time spent with him, catching up on life in general.

Black Friday

Friday morning started out early as we received our unexpected wake-up call from Jc Penney, about 2:00 in the morning. Okay, it was more like 2:10, but when you are talking that early, it is all about the same. Once I hung up the phone I did manage to get up and get in the shower to get ready for the shopping extravaganza. We met at my Aunt Dorothy's house at 3:00 and planned our course of action for the day. I just want you all to know--Circuit City was not worth it this year. They had the longest line to get in and once inside all of the good items were gone. Probably because they had the best deals on "The Office" Seasons 1 & 2 as well as "Madden 08". We spent the morning bouncing from store to store trying to find all of the best deals on the items we wanted. This year (other than Circuit City) the crowds did not seem to be too overbearing. The best part about the day is watching the people. Most of you know, I love to watch people their actions and how they interract with others. If you are like me and like those things, then this day is one you should definitely get out and get your eye full! We did our traditional stop at the Brick Oven for lunch and got our bellies full of pizza, pasta, and salad. (Just pizza and salad for me this time.) We spent another 4 or so hours shopping before deciding to return home at 6:00 p.m. I think this was the earliest we have ever been home. Those of you that have read my earlier posts, might be asking at this time--did you get all of your shopping done? The answer is nope. Although, I am very close, closer than I ever have before at this point.

The Holy War
Saturday was the ever popular Rivalry Game between BYU and the U of U. My brother Mike decided to hold a party this year. Which turned out to be rather interesting, because Mike is a huge U fan and I root for the Y. I was the only one at the shin-dig that cheered for Cougs. Although, I would have been okay with the Utes getting the win. At work, I was the only one that picked the Utes to win. Let me say again, I am a cougar fan and want them to win, but it just seemed to me that the Utes had more momentum going into the game, so I expected them to win with a score of 27-24. As most of you know by now, BYU did end up with the victory at 17-10. The game was not the high scoring even that everyone expected it to be and was actually a somewhat defensive battle, until the last two minutes, it was a definite nail-biter.
Sing, sing a song
Last Sunday, Bishop Lunt asked me if I would make a return to the ward choir. I told him that I would and made my way back to choir practice. I do like to sing, although I have to admit I do not have a great singing voice. Our choir will be singing 3 different songs on the Sunday before Christmas. When listening to the songs, they are beautiful songs. However, one of the songs is very difficult to sing as it has a few key changes and two different codas. We have only 3 more practices before we perform it in Sacrament meeting, so it will be a challenge to be fully prepared. Although, I do have to admit, the hardest song is definitely the most beautiful to listen to. If we can get it together, I think the ward will definitely enjoy the songs we sing.
