We are getting closer to Christmas and this year we have decided to throw a wrench into the works. Normally the Painter's buy gifts for everyone in the family. Which has always been fun. I have enjoyed watching everyone open the gifts we give each other. But to be honest, the last few years have been a bit stressful. It is not always easy coming up with the perfect present for each other. Well, today we decided that we would just draw names and give one gift. Even though it felt like a burden was lifted, I think I will miss seeing everyone open each other's presents. Really, I am willing to give it a go; I think it will be a fun change. This year I drew Tracy's name and as of right now, I have no idea what I am going to get her. But, I know it won't take too much longer and I will come up with the right gift.
Because we are getting close to Christmas I am starting to get organized and have come up with a list of observations and goals.
- It is after November 1, so we can start listening to Christmas Music. Here is a link for a radio station now playing Christmas Music. (Thanks Natasha) http://1037litefm.com/##
- I am going to mail my Christmas Cards on December 1.
- All of my Christmas shopping will be finished up the day after Thanksgiving.
- Because my ward is once again having a Ward Humanitarian Aid day, I want to encourage everyone to do something nice for someone else this year. (Completely anonymous if possible.)
- Remember the true meaning of the holiday--don't get involved in all the hustle and bustle.
Who knows if all of them are possible, but since it is still a few weeks away, I can keep hope.
Now that I have mentioned my goals--I have to digress. Each year, I try to give myself a present for Christmas. This year I have it narrowed down to a few items.
- A keyboard so that I can try to pick up one of my lost talents of piano playing.
- New set of scriptures. I finally have my mission scriptures broken in, but they are starting to fall apart, so a new set would be great.
- Scope for my Rifle. I bought a new rifle in March or April and have not yet added the scope that I want.
- An iPod--not that I don't like my current MP3 Player--because I do--I just want the capacity for more music.
If any of you have suggestions as to which I should go with, let me know. If I wasn't new to this whole blogging thing--I would try to set up a survey so you could just cast your vote. Maybe one of these days.

I see that you don't have any comments and thought I would be the first. I would like to start by saying that listening to Christmas Music before Thanksgiving is so wrong. In fact it should be abolished along with abortion and capital punishment. For Heaven's sake, can't you wait until the turkey leftovers are collecting bacteria before you start in on the Holly Jolly goodness of Christmas? I have my alarm clock set to FM100 to wake me up in the morning and I used to lay there and listen to the relaxing music and ease myself out of bed. Now, a blasted Christmas song comes on and it jolts me right up. Maybe that is why I have been to the gym on time the past few weeks. Just to set the record straight, I am not at all opposed to Christmas music; I just think that there is an order of things during the Holliday’s. You start with Halloween. You decorate, you dress up, you eat candy. When you finish eating all that left over candy a few days after Halloween you being preparations for Thanksgiving. You put the Halloween decorations away and get out the Cornucopia and pilgrims. If you are like me you have some lovely ceramic pumpkins that can be interchanged between Halloween and Thanksgiving by putting different colored accents around them. Thanksgiving comes and you eat more food in one day than most people in Africa eat in an entire year. Then you lay around and watch football until it gets dark and the food settles so you can finish off that last piece of pie. Then you go to bed early so you can get up at 4:00 am and go Christmas shopping. This is the time that Christmas music can be played non-stop. You shop all day to try and burn some of those calories you packed on the day before and come home to eat the rest of the turkey leftovers.
Thank you - Sandra
My vote is that you buy yourself a keyboard so you can impress the ladies with your musical abilities.
