Not My Shining Moment

The other morning after getting ready for work, I picked up my computer bag and headed for the door. I felt my pockets for my door key, nope it wasn't in my pockets. I looked on the kitchen counter next to the door. On first glance I couldn't see it there. I went back to my room to see if I might have placed it on my nightstand and forgot to grab it when I picked up my car keys. (Yes, I know, I should probably actually put this key on the ring with my other keys. But I do have two sets of keys and I wouldn't want to favor one set over the other.) Anyway, back to the original point of the story. Nope, not on my nightstand. Maybe it is still in the pant pockets I had worn the day before. Had to find them in the hamper, nope not there either.

By this time I was starting to worry, I had checked all my usual places. I decided that they could have fallen out of my pants and into the hamper. Which means I had to search to the bottom. After everything out of the hamper, shaking them and putting them back in, I decided it wasn't there. I dropped down to my hands and knees and looked to see if somehow they had managed to go under my bed. Nope not there either. Well, the key ring is brown and so is the carpet in my room. Maybe I better do a search of the rest of the floor while I was down there. Oh, I bet they feel out of my pocket when I was sitting on the couch last night. After removing all the cushions and refolding the blanket, it was still no where to be found. I looked on the entertainment center, the shelves in the living room and checked the floor in there as well.

Scouring the floor I walked into the dining room to see if for some reason I had left it on the table. Not there either. I went back to the kitchen counter and decided I should rifle through the papers and other items that were there, just in case I missed it. After 5 minutes of sorting through everything, round filing several papers, putting items away into the cupboard, etc etc. The counter looked great, but still no keys. My last resort, I checked one more time on the hooks that are mounted next to the door, just in case I missed it before. Nope, they had not magically appeared. At that very moment, I had an epiphany; I said out loud, to no one in particular: "You didn't leave them in the door did you?" I opened the door and there they were. In the exact place they had been since 9:30 p.m. the night before. Just like nothing was wrong. Definitely not my one shining moment. But to be fair, I have done it before. Maybe next time that is where I will start looking.
