#13 My History

The last several Saturdays I have pulled myself out of bed early in an attempt to take pictures for my picture challenge. Yesterday (3/31/12) I thought that I would head South. (So far I have gone East and West) Deciding I didn't want to go alone, I thought I would call my mom to see if she wanted to ride with me. She decided to join me. We started towards Levan and while driving I mentioned to mom that maybe we could go to Mills and she could fill me in on where everyone (her Aunts and Uncle, etc) used to live. She pointed out to me the homes that belonged to her dad's brothers. This is the only home that is not occupied and therefore was the only one I immortalized in digital format.
A little farther down the road and there was this piece of farm machinery. Neither mom nor I knew how this was used. It wasn't until today when Paul pointed out to me that it is probably two different pieces of equipment. While driving back from Mills towards Levan mom mentioned to me that it was 34 years ago that Grandma Williams passed away. She then told me about the day driving home after she left the hospital. That was the first time she had ever let me in and told me about that day. Then I told her about that day for me as well, when I found out the news. By that time both of us had tears streaming down our face. Deciding both of us needed a break, this rock provided a great excuse for me to get out of the car and take some more pictures. The last of our trip ended with us taking a drive down Powell Lane. My dad's grandpa owns a farm on Powell Lane. We took my car to the gate at the entrance of the farm and had to look around a bit and point out a few of the changes that have occurred.
The day was a huge success. I enjoyed spending the time with my mom, listening to her tell stories about growing up and finding out a little more about my history. I told her that next time I was going to rent a big van and take her and all her siblings to find out all the other details. Maybe one of these days.

What a gift - beautiful photos, time spent with your mom and more pieces of your family history. Perfection.
