Volunteerism

This last Wednesday, I was able to attend a luncheon that honored volunteers from each County in the State of Utah. They are called the Silver Bowl Award and were held at the Provo Marriott. Each person is nominated and a selection committee narrows it down to just one winner from each county. This year, my father was selected from Juab County.
He was honored for his service given to the County Veteran's Memorial, the Farm Equipment outdoor annex, volunteering to work with the Chamber of Commerce to help with Downtown Beautification as well as a variety of other areas where he has donated his time. The awards were presented by Lieutenant Governor Bell as the Volunteerism Director for each area. Did you know that Utah is #1 in the Nation for hours donated in Volunteer Service? The #2 state is Iowa and they want that #1 ranking. Utah has held it for 5 consecutive years. As they read the bio on each recipient it made me want to be a better person and give back more to my community.
This picture is of all the recipients as they were gathering together for a group photograph. My group photo was not very good, because I had the official photographer standing right in front of me. I have to point out the lady on the front row wearing the black with the red sweater is 100 years old and she still donates time to give to others. She received a truly deserving standing ovation from the entire crowd.
The day was a truly inspiring group! They helped me to put my life into perspective. What a great opportunity to see my dad receive this award, one he is definitely deserving. Congratulations dad! I love you and am grateful for your amazing example.
