May Your Basket Be Bountiful

Recently a food co-op was brought to our good little town. I was pretty excited when I found out they would be starting. One of my coworkers has been involved with Bountiful Baskets for several months now and had been telling me about all of the great fruits and vegetables that are available. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept behind co-ops, basically the participants pool their money together and are able to buy the produce at a deep discount, allowing us to each get more for our money. Everything is done on a volunteer basis and everyone can expect to help out once when they are able. While explaining the co-op concept to one of my co-workers I was asked if I had to surrendered by Republican Card to participate. After I laughed I reminded him us Republicans are fiscally conservative and this definitely applies.

This past weekend was my second time getting a basket. I decided that since I didn't have anything else planned, I would volunteer some time and help out. I have to admit it was kind of a cool experience. Once all of the baskets were filled with the produce this week, I looked around the room and thought, "this looks kind of cool". So I grabbed my cell phone and snapped the following picture:

After helping to sort the produce and snapping the picture, I looked at my watch and it was earlier than I had planned, so I decided to stick around and see if I could help with the distribution. My assignment was the "extras" table. The extras this week consisted of 9-grain bread (delicious), 4th of July Cookies, blueberries, and an all-Italian vegetable assortment. Of course this was right up social Clinton's alley as I enjoyed spending a few moments visiting with all of the people that came through.

When I arrived home and started sorting through my produce, I was impressed at the quantity of food and decided it would also make a great picture.

I was right. The picture was pretty cool. Not to mention the produce is fresh and really really good! My parting words are a big thumbs up to Bountiful Baskets. I have really enjoyed the fresh fruits and vegetables and will probably volunteer again soon.

What a cool program - someday when I live home for long enough I'm going to have to participate.

We have been doing Bountiful Baskets since December and love it. The produce is generally amazing. It is also fun to try new things that you wouldn't normally buy. The only complaint we have is that our site sells out every week. So, thanks for advertising.
