The Painter's Independence Day Celebrations

This is the 200th post on my blog and I couldn't think of a more deserving topic. Independence Day (aka The 4th of July) has always been one of my favorite holidays. This year, due to the 4th of July being on a Sunday, I have taken advantage and have decided to celebrate all three days of the weekend.

Nephi City held their annual celebration at the City Park and the park was packed all day long. After the weather started to cool a bit, we all gathered at the parent's house for a BBQ. I had to laugh, because I grabbed the food to BBQ and once we were laying the spread out, I realized that we had bratwurst. I mean really, what says "God Bless America" more than a German sausage? The BBQ was great and the food awesome!

We cleaned up after the BBQ and spent some time visiting with each other and reminiscing about 4th of July's past. Before we realized it, we had to grab our blankets and head to the football field to watch fireworks. Before heading to the football field I decided I needed to run home and grab a sweatshirt. When I was leaving my house I was driving down the road and couldn't help but notice the beautiful colors in the sky.

Once again on the 4th, we were given some beautiful colors to experience, before seeing the fireworks show. We got to the football field, claimed our spot on the grass and we were prepared for the show.

With the exception of some wind, the fireworks were once again pretty great.

Did I mention it was a bit windy? Which is why all the fireworks seem to be moving to the right. (South)
After the city fireworks we called it a night, only to meet again Sunday afternoon.
We once again laid out a BBQ spread, we finished up the salads and chips from the previous day. We changed from a "brat" to a good old hamburger. Once again we had a great meal. After dinner we decided to play a few rounds of "Cosmic Catch". Which if you have never played or even seen this game. I suggest you find it. Kind of a fun game of summer. The easiest way to describe it, kind of like Simon only with a ball.

After Cosmic Catch, we played a few games of horse. No, I never managed to win, I started in 3rd place, went to 2nd and finished the last game in 4th. I know the next round was mine to win. Fortunately, I never took last place.

Amber managed to sneak out a victory in the last game. You would think she just won the Horse World Championship. Although, to be fair, when you win in our family you have to hold onto those victories.

Once dusk was upon us, we lit our own fireworks. Chris and Chase were again in charge of the pyrotechnics this year.

This picture made me laugh. It shows Chase lighting the firework and then hightailing it for safe ground.

I think this was the finale.

They did a great job with the fireworks and I had a fantastic time with my family. This Holiday weekend I have been grateful for this great land that I live in! The freedoms we have to do the things we enjoy. This weekend I was able to gather with my family, watch fireworks, worship freely, and my government never once inhibited anything I did. We are truly blessed to enjoy these freedoms. I am thankful for our founding fathers to establish this rights and I am more grateful for those who have fought to give us and preserve these rights.

Hope you all have had a fulfilling and enjoyable Independence Day.

As someone who missed out on the 4th celebrations this year, I loved this post - even though it made me very homesick, noting beats a small town 4th.
