An Incredible Idea -- Guerrilla Holiday

Most of you know I have a few friends that I follow their blogs. Well, the other day as I was blog-surfing (sounds so much better than blog-stalking) I ran across an amazing idea. This was on my friend Jamie's blog over at Lyrical Journey. (If I knew how to be creative, that would have been a link to her blog.)

She has a friend that last year came up with this idea of Guerrilla Holiday.

I am going to use what Jamie wrote as a definition--so you can at least understand the concept.

Have you ever heard of Guerrilla Artist's? Basically, they are artists that make art and install, preform, or attach it to public spaces, with the intention of affecting the world in a creative and thought provoking way (to paraphrase Keri Smith). These installations are often anonymous, and very unique. Do a web search for "guerrilla art" and you will see many wonderful examples. My idea is to remove some of the hype from the holiday and remind people of the simple joy of kindness. I think we all get so wrapped up in the stress of the season, we sometimes forget about small ways we can feel, and spread joy. I'm talking about some random acts of giving. Tiny stuff, sweet stuff, unexpected stuff. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Decorate a public and unexpected object. Put a handmade greeting card on a strangers windshield. If your a crafter, make something small, and stick it in a neighbors mailbox. Go for a walk and stick a single shiny ornament on every tree that you pass. Tie a pretty tag, with a few kind words, on somebodies trash can (won't that just freak them out!). One of my readers tucked handmade beaded bookmarks in library books. There are a million possibilities. Make a sticker or a sign. Do you have something to say about the holiday season? Well, this is your chance! Won't you join me? I am really excited to see what you do. Send me some pictures, or tell me some stories, and I will try to post many of them on my blog at http://gildingliliesjournal.blogspot.com/. Spread the word, and take a Guerrilla Holiday Button. Let's see what we can do. This is going to be fun!

This web-address in the body above takes you to the originator of the idea's blog. I am certain she would love to hear from you any of the fun things you do.

Without apologies, I will admit that I am stealing the following idea from Jamie. Please email me and let me know that you have done something, if it is anonymous I don't need to know what you did. But if it is something fun or creative please tell me, I would love to post it on here. If you do something and let me know, I will send you two CDs. The first will be my Christmas 2010 album (the mix this year is awesome; Josh Grobin, Martina McBride, Bing Crosby, and I am still waffling on the Weezer song.) and the second will be my top songs of 2010. These might not be songs that came out in 2010, but they are the songs I listened to the most this year. According to my iTunes play count, you are bound to find Dierks Bentley, Lady Ga Ga, Rihanna, Shinedown, and Finger Eleven. I will be merciful and not include the Katy Perry.

What are you waiting for? Start planning your Guerrilla Holiday and get going. You have less than 3 weeks until Christmas! Let's continue doing good things until the end of the year, so from now until December 31. Come on, get busy. Hurry it up! What are you waiting for?
